Travels with Charley. In Search of America.
New York: Viking, 1962. Hardcover. First edition. A fine, fresh copy in a lovely, unrestored dust jacket. Traveling with his French Standard Poodle, Charley, Steinbeck surveyed America in 1960 as he tried to see his country on a personal level one last time. Traveling in a camper van and starting in New York Steinbeck motored to the Pacific Coast down to Texas, through the deep South and back to New York. "From start to finish I found no strangers...These are my people and this is my country." The price clipped jacket has some darkening to the the spine, but otherwise book and jacket are fine. This is an uncommon copy as it has been signed and inscribed by "John and Charley Steinbeck" on the half title page. Signed by the author. [Book #27368]
