All the Pretty Horses. The Crossing, Cities of the Plain. (Border Trilogy, Uncorrected Proofs of all three editions.)
New York: Knopf 1992, 1993, 1998. Uncorrected Proof. These are three early proofs of the books that make up McCarthy's so-called Border Trilogy, featuring All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing and Cities of the Plain. All three volumes are fine copies in plain wraps. All are unread. All the Pretty Horses is a fine copy in light brown wraps and is the most desirable first state issue which contains the subtitle, "Volume One of the Border Trilogy." McCarthy won the National Book Award for this book. Stapled to the inside cover is a sheet containing three promotional blurbs by Peter Matthiessen, Jim Harrison and Shelby Foote. The Crossing is a fine copy in blue, printed wrappers. It is the second book in the Border Trilogy. Stapled to the inside cover is a mockup of the book's dust jacket, some review material for All the Pretty Horses and a handwritten note from William T. Loverd, an executive with Knopf, to an apparent book reviewer. The final volume of the trilogy is Cities of the Plain. It is a fine copy in yellow printed wrappers.
