Czapski was a Polish artist, author, and critic, as well as an officer of the Polish Army who survived the Russian massacre at the Katyn Forest in 1940. The first English translation of Czapski's account of his search for missing Polish officers during World War and the negotiations with Russian authorities on the whereabouts of Polish POW's. An uncommon first edition.
