This is a reissue of Stead's novel that was originally published in 1940. The reissue contains an introduction by Randall Jarrell that helped rescue the book from relative obscurity. Time magazine eventually included the book in its list of top 100 novels in English from 1923 to 2005. Stead was an Australian writer whose other novels included A Little Tea, A Little Chat and Cotters England. Laid into the book is a typed letter signed by Stead. Signed by the author.
