A Guidebook to Highway 66. Jack D. RITTENHOUSE.

A Guidebook to Highway 66.

Los Angeles: Jack D. Rittenhouse, 1946. Paperback. First edition. A very good copy in original printed wrappers. This is an original copy of well-known guide book to traveling Route 66 in the Post-World War II era. It was compiled by Jack Rittenhouse and his wife, Charlotte, who drove across country on the highway in 1946, noting scenic attractions, places to eat or sleep, road conditions, characteristics of towns and cities along the way and friendly advice on what to carry in your car and how to drive. Rittenhouse even provided drawings and maps to guide visitors along the "Mother Road." He printed 3,000 copies and sold them for one dollar apiece. He promised a second edition, but the original was the only copy until facsimile editions began to be published in 1988.
